Gold Leaf Fly - Beadhead Hare's Ear
6" x 6" Pencil, Ink, Gold Leaf on board.
I think I've caught more trout on this fly than almost any other.
This is one of a series of gold leaf flies that I have done. The gold leaf is an evolution of works that I have done that were inspired from seeing a lot of Byzantine artworks while serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Bulgaria. Sacred objects and ideas are adorned with gold leaf to show their significance. In this case, the fly is the essential object of fly-fishing, so I'm playing around with that idea.
Gold Leaf Fly - Popper!
6" x 6" Pencil, Ink, Acrylic, Gold Leaf on board.
This one is a bit different than the others in that it has more of a painting than an ink drawing. I went over the paint with ink to add some texture and pop!
